Superintendent's Message to:Parents and Community2009-2010 Operational Design Summary EDUCATIONAL LEADERSHIP To that end, every administrator will be able to identify and capitalize on local opportunities for leadership among parents, community members, students and teachers. Each stakeholder group has multiple opportunities to share their ideas, concerns, and participate as a volunteer in the schools. The administrators reach out to their local community for those unique cultural understandings and learning that enrich and expand our mutual partnerships. ORGANIZATION In addition, every student and employee should have a safe and orderly environment every day. Parents and students should feel confident that the school is a safe haven for learning and expanding the potential for each child enrolled. Staff should feel safe in their work, and confident that all employees are alert to maintaining that environment. Structures are in place to handle every suggestion to improve the learning opportunities by reducing distractions or potential hazards. PROFESSIONAL DEVELOPMENT We recognize that the best professional development occurs when teachers have time to The school district continues its unique support for teachers’ professional development every Friday afternoon of each school week. To promote continuous professional growth, administrators look for evidence of the implementation of effective teacher practices in the classrooms, based on the professional development that occurs, and they provide coaching feedback to teachers that supports taking their work to the next level of performance. The Mabton School District also provides two district-wide instructional coaches to help mentor and support teachers in their lesson design and delivery. The purpose of this investment in continuous professional development is to enrich the teaching practices of those who are trusted every day to work with the children who will be responsible for building the future of our world. COMMUNICATION The elements that support college readiness are easily recognized. Clearly our expectation is for learning to be high quality every day, for every student. To achieve their goals, each child should expect and receive personalized adult support as they journey throughout their school years with us. The adults who work with the students should know them as individuals, appreciate their potential, and energetically advocate for their success. Parents should feel comfortable in their child’s school, receive meaningful information about their child, and learn about ways to support their child’s progress. Finally, the district, should have policies that are aligned toward support of the grade level and graduation standards. The evidence of the success of these elements is in our ability to maintain continuous progress toward the goals. Each of these elements should be communicated frequently, and reinforced by all administrators and members of the Board of Directors. Most importantly, all communications will have integrity, along with clarity. The schools and Central Office will be transparent in their work, their procedures and their policies. Each person who is employed by the Mabton School District will be fair and ethical in all of their interactions with each other, with students and with the public. Sandra Pasiero-Davis Superintendent
